The Gasparilla Island Water Association is planning to dig two new deep-water wells north of its existing water treatment facility, according to the Boca Beacon. The group also says it will rehabilitate the reverse-osmosis plant to produce 194,000 gallons of potable water each day, all in a move to reduce the island’s dependency on Charlotte County for its water. A contract has been selected for the project and is expected to begin work next month. While that project moves forward, the association will be working on plans to replace its wastewater treatment facility, which is scheduled for retirement in 2019.
