Charlotte County Fire and EMS officials have released a top ten list of fireworks safety tips. Atop this year’s list is buying your fireworks from a reputable dealer, followed by reading and following insturctions. Emergency officials say adults must always be present when setting off fireworks. It’s also important never to give fireworks to small children. Fireworks should be lit on a smooth flat surface, free of debris. Never shoot fireworks from a glass container. Wear appropriate eyewear and other protection. Keep a bucket of water nearby just in case there’s a fire. If a firework does not light initially, do not try to relight it, wait 20 minutes and soak it in water.
