We’ve been reporting on the likelihood of a fair hike on the Sarasota County Area Transit system. One-way fares on SCAT buses expected to rise from seventy-five cents to a dollar-twenty-five beginning next Monday. That proposal comes before County Commissioners for the final time this evening and they’re expected to vote it into law at their final hearing on the proposed 2012 budget tonight. There hasn’t exactly been an outpouring of protest about the fare increase. At the last meeting, only two people reportedly appeared to express their concerns about it. Commissioners grappling with a number of financial issues as county tax revenues drop for the fifth straight year. In another cost-saving measure, the only two libraries in the Sarasota County system to have Sunday hours will now be closed then. Commissioners meeting tonight at seven at their chambers in Venice.
