Ex-North Port Police officer Michael Dietz was sentenced to a years probation on a no contest plea to first degree misdemeanor domestic battery. The Herald-Tribune reports as part of the plea approved by a judge, Dietz must complete a 29-week Certified Batterer Intervention Program; which addresses anger management, substance abuse and other issues; and must not make any harmful contact with his victim. If he fails to comply, Dietz faces arrest and up to a year in jail. He was arrested by Sarasota Sheriff’s deputies while off duty in March for allegedly battering his fiance at their home after she tried to end to their relationship via text message.
