Some Enlgewood residents may know the name Rita Crundwell. She had a vacation home here. She’s also at the heart of massive municipal fraud case in llinois.
Crundwell is Dixon’s ex-bookeeper. She was sentenced yesterday to almost 20-years in federal prison on last years guilty plea to wire fraud. Prosecutors say she stole over $53-million from Dixon taxpayers from 1991 until last April. She spent the money living the good life, with multiple homes, cars, and a nationally known horse-breeding operation. Authorities have been busy auctioning off her possessions to get back the money back she stole, including the contents of that now empty Englewood home.
