The price of gas in the Englewood-Sarasota-Venice market remains below $2, but hasn’t dropped too much since hitting that mark.

The average on Monday in the region was $1.98, about 1.5 cents lower than this time last week. But it’s about 16-cents lower since this time a month ago.

The Florida average price was $2.03 on Monday. Triple-A expects additional declines, with the price of oil at multi-year lows.

The national average price for gas is at its lowest price since 2009 and is near the $2 per gallon threshold. Retail averages have fallen for 33 of the past 36 days. Drivers are saving 57 cents per gallon compared with this same date last year, according to Triple-A.
