ENGLEWOOD-CAPE HAZE. Englewood-Cape Haze Area Chamber of Commerce 2012 President Bill Truex announced today that the Board of Directors have named Mary Smith, Past President and former Chamber Board Member, as the Executive Director following a three month search for a replacement for the former executive director Jon Bednerik who had been serving since June of 2008.
Smith was Community Relations Director for Bay Harbor Ford from 1999 until 2011 and previously was Physician Liaison for Administration at Englewood Community Hospital from 1997 to 1999. She has an extensive record serving in a volunteer capacity with many Charlotte and Sarasota County, as well as state-level, nonprofit organizations and has participated on multiple local government and economic development committees. She was a member of the Chamber Board from 2004 until 2010. She was Chamber president in 2006-2007.
President Truex said, “Mary Smith will be joining us on January 30, 2012 as our new Executive Director, Please make it a point to welcome her aboard. Our outgoing Executive Director, Jon Bednerik, has offered to assist and remain accessible as we work through the transition. Please let Jon know his efforts and dedication to the Chamber have been greatly appreciated.”
He added, “As we move forward to the future, your Board is dedicating itself to a “Chamber Makeover”. We have a beautiful facility and we want to take that positive change and begin the makeover of our Chamber’s positioning. Stay tuned as we develop more on that issue.”
