Threatening a police officer with a sledge hammer: That’s the charge against 51-year-old James West of Sarasota after police say he became angry when a uniformed police officer walked across his yard while investigating a nearby complaint. Police say West said it was unacceptable for the officer to be on his property and threatened a fight. Then, police say, he picked up a ten-pound sledge hammer. West reportedly dropped the hammer and fled into his house when a backup police car arrived.
