Area hospitals have announced the first babies born in 2012. Jana Ellis gave birth to Carlos Rafael Mercedes at 3:41 a.m. New Year’s Day at Peace River Regional Medical Center in Port Charlotte. Weighing in at 6 pounds, 15 ounces, and 20 inches long, Carlos was the first Charlotte County baby born in the New Year. The first baby of 2012 for Sarasota County was born just seven minutes into the new year at Sarasota Memorial Hospital . Gabriel Barnes was born at 12:07 a.m. to Robyn and Robert Barnes, of North Port. This is the fourth child for the couple. Gabriel weighs 6 pounds, 5 ounces.
