Charlotte County will have a new sheriff. Incumbent sheriff Bill Cameron will not run for re-election and is leaving the field to four other announced candidates. In a surprise move, Cameron says he’s going to retire at the end of his current term rather than run for another one. Cameron and his wife saying they made the decision so they can spend more time with their family. Cameron says he plans to endorse Sheriff’s Captain Bill Prummell as his replacement. He’s already in the race as are three other candidates: Ed Pope, Frank Rubino and Glen Sapp.
