(PORT CHARLOTTE) Charlotte County Sheriff’s detectives are asking the public for help in identifying a man involved in an attempted burglary of jewelry store September 12 in Port Charlotte.

Detectives say the man is shown in store video surveillance shortly after 11 p.m. walking from between businesses. He then pulls out yellow bolt cutters and smashes the front door glass at Port Charlotte Gold & Silver, 2221 Tamiami Trail. He then tries to cut the padlock off the security bars just inside the door, but was unsuccessful. When the subject could not enter, he walked away in the same direction he came from originally.

The subject is described as a white male, wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt with the word “DUKE” in white letters on the front, blue jeans, dark gloves, and a bandana over his face.

If anyone has information about the identity of the suspect, please call CCSO Detective Ned Kaufman at 941-639-2101, or Crime Stoppers at 800-780-TIPS (8477).
