(PUNTA GORDA) The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit reported the arrest by U.S. Marshal Agents in Miami this morning of a man wanted in connections with a drive-by car shooting Nov. 20 in Port Charlotte.

Following up on CCSO leads supplied to the U.S. Marshal’s, agents located and arrested Herbert Earl Battle Jr., 39, aka “Dooney.” His last known address was on Rhapsody Avenue in North Port. Battle is charged with four counts of Attempted Murder. Ashanti Donnell Roundtree, 35, 4092 Oscar Terrace, North Port, was arrested Nov. 28 on the same charges; he remains in the Charlotte County Jail on no bond.

Battle fled the area following the drive-by shooting into a car on U.S. 41. Battle and Roundtree followed the victim’s car after leaving Boomers night club following an argument inside. Eight bullets hit the car; three of the four inside were shot around 1:30 a.m. Two were treated and released while the driver, Kameka Latish Akins, 22, of Arcadia, was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital with a very serious neck injury.

It is not known at this time when Battle will be returned to Charlotte County to face the murder charges here.
