Charlotte County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating a stabbing and a shooting that happened over the weekend in Port Charlotte.

They’re two separate incidents: a stabbing that happened in the parking lot of Boomer’s on Tamiami Trail around 1:30 Saturday morning. Police said 23 year old Leon Mercurius was slashed with a knife and that may have been in retaliation for a Christmas Eve stabbing. He was treated at the hospital and released. Then, deputies got a call just after 2 a.m. Saturday about shots fired in the parking lot of Emerald City in the 12 hundred block of Tamiami Trail. The victim drove himself to the hospital, telling sheriff’s officials that he’d been shot in the chest. Twenty-nine year old Jameel Faheim was treated and released. If you know anything about either incident, call police or Crimestoppers.
