The smoking ban on Sarasota County beaches could be making a comeback.

A State Senate Committee’s approved a bill yesterday giving county’s and cities the authority to reinstate beach smoking bans. Those bans were tossed as a violation of the state’s 2003 Florida Clean Indoor Air Act. The Herald-Tribune reports tourism supporters in Southwest Florida have been worried about losing business without a smoking ban. The proposed law would require signage marking the no smoking area, and areas where smoking’s allowed. The plan would allow a non-criminal violation and a $100 fine.
