Bank scammers are making the rounds in Southwest Florida, this time through email.
Englewood resident David Best spotted the scam right away, but hopes others don’t fall for it. Best works as a painter, saying it’s the only thing that keeps money flowing into his bank account, especially this time of year.
On Sunday morning when he checked his email, he found he was the target of an online banking swindle, with scammers posing as SunTrust Bank employees. They asked for account information in hopes of getting access to his money.
He said he was wary of something like this.
Depositors are warned not to divulge personal financial information electronically, either by phone or email, and to contact their bank when attempts like this are made.
