One, two, now three audits of Sarasota county purchasing show a pattern of record-keeping and policy violations. The third audit was released yesterday. In some cases, county employees failed to get three price quotes before hiring companies for up to $25,000 in government work. According to the audit, vendors were allowed to keep billing the county for years after their contracts with the government had expired. Clerk of the Circuit Court Karen Rushing says the record keeping was so hit or miss that auditors could not even find the original contract for several companies that did as much as $116,000 of work for the county annually.
