An artifact from 9-11. A memorial ceremony is set for Sunday at Sarasota Police Headquarters to commemorate the 9-11 attacks and it will include a unique piece of history. A fourteen-foot girder, part of one of the World Trade Center towers, has been donated to the City of Sarasota by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. It will be unveiled Sunday morning at eight-thirty as a permanent memorial to first responders who lost their lives in the attacks. The event will also commemorate Sarasota police officer Warren Jones, who in 1975 became the only city police officer to lose his life in the line of duty. Everyone is invited to the ceremony Sunday at eight-thirty A-M, Sarasota Police Headquarters at 2099 Adams Lane.
