According to the National Weather Service parts of Central and Southwest Florida could be in line for potential tornado activity today, Wednesday, October 28th.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office relayed the update to local residents thru their phone apps.

Local areas under the tornado watch include Arcadia, Englewood, Lehigh Acres, North Port, Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, Sarasota and Venice.

The potential for severe weather has led to the closure of activities in the area and of the South Jetty in Venice.

Due to the cold front approaching the area, waves are breaking over the asphalt walk-out at the South Jetty. The Venice Police Department has closed the asphalt walk-out until the weather calms down. This could possibly last through Saturday. The rest of Humphries Park will remain open at this time, however, this could change depending on the wave activity.

The tornado watch is in effect until 5 p.m. Wednesday.
