It’s been twenty years since we all witnessed the largest and deadliest terrorist attack ever committed on American soil.
Every generation has moments like this that are etched vividly in our minds – moments like the attack on Pearl Harbor, President Kennedy’s assassination, and the Challenger explosion. These moments are so deeply ingrained that we even remember where we were and what we were doing when they happened.
The events of September 11th, 2001 are difficult to think about, but we must make it a point to remember them. We must remember the nearly 3,000 innocent people whose lives were taken, the over 6,000 others who were injured, and the countless heroes who ran toward the carnage to help those in need.
I am proud to have some of these heroes now working here at the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.
We also have to remember the way we as a nation responded in the days, weeks, and months following. The way we all came together, set aside our differences, flew our flag proudly, and embraced what it means to be the UNITED States of America.
Today, I say a prayer for all who were affected by the tragedy of September 11th, 2001, and all who are still coping. May God bless all of you, as we remember that day and how it impacted our great nation. And may God bless the United States of America!
