Florida is in the path of Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine Wednesday morning. The system is expected to dump heavy rains and flash floods across the northern Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic before making its way toward the U.S. mainland on Saturday night.

Weather officials said the system was carrying maximum sustained winds near 45 mph and higher gusts as of 2 a.m. Wednesday.

The system was located about 50 miles east, northeast of Martinique as of 2 a.m. Wednesday. It was moving northwest at 25 mph.
