As of noon Thursday, Sarasota County is reporting 412 confirmed COVID-19 cases. 7 additional cases since Wednesday. 72 cases are now being marked as COVID-19 positive in the North Port area. That is an additional 9 cases or a 13% jump. Please continue to remain vigilant and protect yourself and others by using proper precautions.

There have been 51 deaths reported as a result of COVID-19 in Sarasota County to date. Two additional since yesterday. The Florida Department of Health is currently reporting a total of 38,828 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Florida. 826 additional since Wednesday. Deaths in Florida now sit at 1,600. 61 deaths in the past day.

Department of Health Sarasota conducted COVID-19 drive-through testing at the Laurel Civic Association today from 8 a.m. to noon with 90 appointments scheduled. DOH Sarasota is scheduled to host three COVID-19 drive-thru test sites next week at the following locations with an appointment:

North Sarasota: Tuesday, May 12, 8 a.m. to Noon – RL Taylor Community Center, 1845 34th Street, Sarasota

South County: Wednesday, May 13, 8 a.m. to noon – Heron Creek Middle School, 6501 W. Price Blvd, North Port

Mid-County: Thursday, May 14, 8 a.m. to Noon – Laurel Civic Association, 509 Collins Road, Laurel

This community based COVID-19 testing is for anyone who is currently experiencing symptoms (fever, cough, or shortness of breath) or who works in a health care setting. To make an appointment, please call 941-861-2883. Callers will be screened using current CDC testing criteria. Appointments are limited however more testing opportunities may be scheduled in the future. All patients must have an appointment to be tested.

A State COVID-19 Drive-Thru Testing Site opened for Sarasota and Manatee Counties at the Mall at University Town Center for anyone 18 years or older regardless of symptoms, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily without an appointment.
