A driver involved in a hit-and-run crash Sunday in Sarasota County that killed a 70-year-old woman and critically injured an infant was out on bond for two drug-related felonies.

As part of his release, he was not supposed to drink, but the Herald-Tribune reports police had the no-alcohol condition of his bond removed so he could work as their informant.

33-year old David Buncik was arrested March 20 on charges of trafficking cocaine and ecstasy in Sarasota County. He allegedly agreed to work for the Sarasota Police Department as an informant, and needed the ability to drink alcohol in bars to assist undercover officers with their investigations.
