Venice property owners with large Banyan trees, oaks and other trees deemed “Venetian Trees” could receive a tax incentive to preserve them.

The city is considering an initial draft of a tree preservation, protection and replacement ordinance. Venice would take over tree permits from the county by October.

In order to qualify for the property tax incentive, residents and businesses with Venetian Trees on private property would have to nominate them for inclusion.

As the ordinance is currently written, those who preserve the trees would qualify for a owners with potential As it sits, people with Heritage and Venetian trees on their property may receive a $250 reduction on city property taxes.
