Firefighters dealt with an intense fire at a home in Punta Gorda this morning. It happened on Green Gulf Boulevard. Firefighters did not find anyone inside upon their first search. Crews needed to act quickly because of the brush surrounding the building. The state fire marshal soon joins the investigation.

Punta Gorda had a major power outage this afternoon. It happened around Route 41 and Madrid Boulevard. Transportation officials say a semi-truck hit a power pole to cause the outage. At its peak, over 1,500 FPL customers in Charlotte County lost power.

The three people arrested following yesterday’s shooting in Fort Myers have their arraignments next month. Punta Gorda Airport finally has a second commercial carrier. The News-Press reports Frontier Airlines begins seasonal nonstop flights at the end of October involving Chicago-O’Hare and Philadelphia. It also reports a year-round flight involving Trenton.
