History

THE WAVE 1530 AM signed on the air in the late summer of 1964 and was continuously owned and operated by Sarasota Charlotte Broadcasting Corporation until August 27, 1993. On that date, the Federal Communications Commission approved transfer of ownership of WENG Radio to The Murray Broadcasting Company. The Murray Broadcasting Company has completely renovated the studios and offices, installing state-of-the-art equipment and computer, digital sound technology. This has been integrated into it’s new lineup of News, Talk, and Sports.

On October 21, 2002 WENG 1530 AM was sold to Viper Communications, Inc. headed by Ken Kuenzie and Dennis Klautzer. In June 1986, Lakecom, Inc. sold to KRMS/KYLC, Inc. headed by John Mahaffey. November 1, 1997 KRMS/KYLC, Inc. sold to Viper Communications, Inc. headed by Ken Kuenzie and Dennis Klautzer. KYLC-FM has since returned to KRMS-FM (Classic Rock 93.5 KRMS) and increased power to 50 thousand watts with dual 10kw Armstrong transmitters, a 500ft. tower and digital audio. KRMS(AM), News Talk 1150, now operates 24 hours with a new wide-band unipole AM tower, solid-state Gates One transmitter and digital audio processing. Both KRMS(AM) and KRMS-FM now enjoy top spots in Arbitron ratings.
