Long-awaited repairs to crumbling seawalls in Punta Gorda are finally getting replaced, nearly six months after getting destroyed by Hurricane Irma. City officials told WINK-TV they’re trying to cram in more than a decade’s worth of work next 18 months or so. More than 13,000 areas of seawall will either be repaired or replaced altogether. City engineer Mark Gehring says they hope to complete the work before July and the summer’s heaviest rains come.
