Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight is proposing a new plan for school security. Knight’s plan after the Parkland shooting would incorporate retired law enforcement and military to be security at local schools. Knight’s plan does not provide a way to pay for the new proposed officers. Potential security would be hired by the particular school district and the particular sheriff’s office would provide specialized training. The added security would be in addition to existing school resource officers.
