The City of Venice has a budgeting issue to the tune of millions of dollars. A project that is supposed to be done by the fall has exceeded the $6 million budget and is now anywhere from $8-$10 million. Apparently, changes and additions have come to the project without council changing the budget number. Now there is talk about re-bidding the project that is designed to replace some streets and sidewalks in the downtown area. That would delay the project even further and bring the current deadline into serious doubt. The council is supposed to discuss the issue on Tuesday, February 28, 2018, at its next meeting.
