Village On The Isle broke ground Thursday on two new facilities — Emerald Terraces at Village On The Isle, and the Luke Haven Health Center — in the latest phase of its $100 million expansion.

The project includes construction of 46 independent living residences and a health center, expanding to roughly 400 residents and 280 full- and part-time staff.

The new Luke Haven Health Center will include 64 skilled nursing units, in addition to a therapy gym. The project was financed in part by the Dec. sale of $72 million of tax-exempt, investment-grade bonds through the Sarasota County Health Facilities Authority. Construction is anticipated to take about 18 months.
