Officials in the Venice police department need some help to guide the department through renewal of its accreditation with the FDLE, and they’ll likely going to stay local. The person likely to serve as a consultant to the Venice PD is none other than North Port Police Chief Kevin Vespia, who plans to retire from his current job in March. Venice lost its state accreditation in 2004 after missing a deadline to reapply and didn’t earn that status back until 2009. North Port is on its 18th straight year of accreditation with the state and is up for renewal itself in November.
