The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has arrested 11 people and has issued a warrant for a 12th person after a 4 month undercover investigation into opioid trafficking. The measure was part of the department’s on-going effort to combat the drug problem by identifying the dealers, going undercover in their networks and then ultimately taking deadly drugs off the streets.  Sheriff officials say they went after those who distributed heroin, fentanyl, carfentanil, meth, morphine and cocaine. Since 2015, detectives have investigated more than 400 opioid and heroin-related overdoses- that includes 32 opioid-related deaths in 2017 alone.
