One man is behind bars after almost a year-long investigation into a fatal crash in Charlotte County. Back on December 5th, a car crashed along US-41 near Harbor Boulevard. When police got on scene, they found two people- 21-year olds Wesley Cherry and Brittany Beni- dead inside the vehicle. That appeared to be an open-and-shut case, until a witness called 911 to report seeing someone- the alleged driver- running away from the scene. That supposed driver, 25-year-old Michel Brutus, of Port Charlotte, was arrested this week. He is awaiting charges of leaving the scene of fatal crash, leaving the scene with property damage and giving false information to law enforcement during the investigation.
