A Charlotte County neighborhood is on alert after a bat with rabies bit two people. Frederick Avenue, Peachland Boulevard, Broadview Street, Adela Avenue and Beacon Drive in Port Charlotte are all covered under the rabies alert issued by Charlotte County Animal Control. The two people who were bit and infected tried to rescue a sick bat that fell onto their property. The rabies alert will be in effect for 30 days, which means it will expire Sept. 6. Anyone with questions or concerns is asked to call Charlotte County Animal Control or the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.
