Call it fake news, or just an internet rumor…but thanks to a publication called the ‘Adventure Journal,’ some people thought the town of Englewood would be changing its name. The reason? Adventure Journal was released using the name ‘The Punta Gorda/ Englewood Beach Visitor and Convention Bureau’s 2017 Visitor Guide.’ The publication is actually a marketing tool put out by a Charlotte County tourism office- the Punta Gorda/ Englewood Beach Visitor and Convention Bureau. So why the ‘beach?’ The bureau’s director, Lorah Steiner, told ABC-7 people who aren’t familiar with the area usually search for a beach to stay near while vacationing. So no, Englewood’s town name isn’t changing, regardless of what you may see on Facebook.
