Two people got a bit of a scare Friday after their small plane ran off the runway at Venice Municipal Airport. Airport director Mark Cervasion told ABC-7 that a student pilot and instructor had taken off earlier from Page Field in Fort Myers en route to Venice. As the student attempted to land, he ran into a crosswind and lost control of the plane. The instructor immediately took over and got the plane on the ground safely. The Mooney Ovation2 ended up off the runway in a drainage ditch, damaging the nose gear and propeller. The FAA is investigating the incident.
