Two dozen cars have been broken into over the past week in one Port Charlotte neighborhood. Officials with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office say most of the cars that were hit were unlocked. According to the sheriff’s office, 19 cars were broken into last week and another five were broken into on Monday alone. Katie Heck with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office told NBC-2 the thieves are just rifling through center consoles and glove boxes, grabbing small items. She says the robbers are usually on foot or riding bicycles. Residents in the Parkside neighborhood are being asked to keep their outdoor lights on at night to better protect cars in the area.
