More than 1,000 gallons of partially untreated wastewater was reported spilled in Port Charlotte Monday. A force main line break happened at the corner of Ohara Drive and Flamingo Boulevard around midday. Utilities staff recovered about 200 gallons of partially treated wastewater with a tanker truck. The remaining wastewater was absorbed into the ground and the affected area was sanitized with hydrated lime. No direct waterways were impacted. The line was repaired and put back into service later in the day. In keeping with State law, staff reported it to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the State Watch Office.
