Efforts to finance a new spring training complex for the Atlanta Braves in North Port have taken a step forward. On Thursday, the Sarasota County Tourist Development Council unanimously gave its approval to a plan to help pay for the complex by revising the distribution of the county’s tourist development tax. That’s the money collected on hotel and short-term rental accomodations. The revision would allow the county to borrow some 22 million dollars to spend on the Braves’ new home. That money would be paid back using part of the tourist tax. The proposal goes next to the Sarasota County Commission. Total cost of the complex is projected at 75 to 80 million dollars.
