North Port this weekend began draining one of its waterways.

The city started lowering water levels at Cocoplum Waterway at Hillsborough Boulevard between Venango Street and Flamingo Boulevard.

City employees this week begin working on replacing storm water piping and gates as the rainy season comes to an end.

Officials expect the work to start over the next few weeks.
