A Sarasota woman has allegedly stolen $85,000 from the Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida.

The sheriff’s office has charged 42-year-old Stephanie Person with grand theft and scheme to fraud.

The organization’s CEO felt suspicious in May after $77,000 disappeared from accounts that held money for the troops.

The News-Press reports Person worked as the Girl Scouts’ member services coordinator. She apparently transferred money into an inactive troop account that she used for her own expenses.

The arrest report shows Person started taking the money during hard times. She planned on paying it back, but she never resolved her financial problems.
