The Charlotte County sheriff wants to set the record straight.
Bill Prummell has responded to a story that appeared in the Sun on Saturday.
He claims the newspaper couldn’t wait for an investigation to finish.
Prummell denies the torture of anyone, and he also denies most of the allegations.
He acknowledges, though, that a deputy watched an inmate eat his own waste.
Prummell also say Michael Burnette laughed at this and failed to report it.
The sheriff has called Burnette’s behavior disgusting and unforgivable, and he has fired him.
Additionally, Prummell says administrative investigations like this one must follow laws.
The sheriff claims all his employees live and work by core values. He says if they cannot do that, then they cannot work for the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.
