Sarasota County officials want the Army Corps of Engineers to conduct a deeper environmental study before the Lido Key beach renourishment project begins.

The Herald-Tribune reports that if the Corps accepts the county’s suggestion, then rebuiding nearly two miles of eroded beachfront may have to wait for years.

This request goes to the Corps just weeks before the issuances of the DEP’s joint coastal permit.

This permit would allow the project to start after over a decade of planning.
