Manatee County commissioners have approved proposed changes to MCAT routes.

The changes include no longer extending Route 6 westward to the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Lakewood Ranch.

The Herald-Tribune reports MCAT describes it as showing “very low ridership.”

The route’s western terminus eventually moves to the Walmart just east of I-75 and State Road 70.

The changes also include moving the northern terminus for Route 99 from Palmetto to Bradenton.

Additionally, they include exploring with Longboat Key Employers and Longboat’s Chamber of Commerce the idea of replacing the trolley on the island with a less-costly on-demand shuttle for workers that would leave from and return to Coquina Beach.
