An Englewood man has pleaded guilty in the death of his six-year-old son.

Rick Dearman has admitted to aggravated manslaughter.

His son Jimmy died on Christmas Eve last year after authorities say he and his girlfriend sat on him.

An assistant state attorney says the boy and his sister made noise in the bedroom.

Instead of putting his nose against the wall as punishment, the boy watched Cole and Dearman play video games.

The attorney claims Cole brought the boy to the couch and sat on his side, his face against the back cushions. Cole sat on his back, and Dearman on his shoulder.

The boy stopped moving after five minutes, and Cole and Dearman went to the garage to smoke. They called police after finding him unresponsive 10 minutes later.

The deal means Dearman receives a maximum 20 years in prison. It also means he testifies against Cole during her sentencing.

Dearman’s sentencing happens July 28.
