The governor has used state reserves to fund the fight against the Zika virus.

Rick Scott has announced that he has the executive emergency authority to take over $26 million dollars from the state’s general revenue fund.

That money now goes towards mosquito control, mitigation and abatement efforts, and Zika prevention kits from the CDC.

All of this follows months of debate in Congress that has failed to produce consensus on federal Zika funding for affected states.

Florida leads the nation in Zika cases.
