Manatee County’s school board has moved forward with a plan to build a new high school.

It has made this decision to reduce overcrowding at over schools.

The board has authorized spending $2.3 million on a land purchase to build a new high school in Parrish.

It hopes to reduce overcrowding at Lakewood Ranch, Braden River, and Palmetto high schools.

The new high school could open for fall 2019.
