State Supreme Court has heard the case of whether or not to reduce a death row inmate’s sentence to life in prison.

This ruling could affect 400 condemned prisoners statewide.

The inmate’s attorney says his client’s sentence should change because of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that has found Florida’s system for sentencing people to death unconstitutional.

The highest court in the country believes Florida gives too much power to judges concerning capital punishment.

An assistant state attorney general says if the death sentence disappears, then the inmate should have a new penalty phase.
