Investigators say alcohol was involved in a vehicle crash that has a Charlotte County sheriff’s deputy in serious condition at a local hospital. 58-year-old Eric Knapp was conducting a traffic stop on McCall Road near Edison Drive yesterday when a pickup truck collided with patrol car, which had its emergency lights activated; a fourth vehicle ran into the vehicle that Knapp had pulled over. John Gregory McMorrow, the driver of the pickup, was charged with multiple DUI violations and was released from jail earlier today on $28,000 bond. Knapp is being treated at Bayfront Port Charlotte.
