Western Michigan University leaders authorized the school to seek provisional licensing to set up a physical presence in Charlotte County for its College of Aviation. The school would build a hangar at Punta Gorda Airport and rent classroom space from Florida Southwestern State College. School leaders say the weather in Florida is much better for teaching flying than in Michigan. Plus, it would allow for better recruiting from the Southeast region.
