Accusations of setting up a love triangle have cost a Charlotte County deputy his job.

The sheriff’s office has arrested 31-year-old Eric Ireland for allegedly setting up the husband of his ex-girlfriend and planting evidence.

A sheriff’s report shows Ireland had a relationship with the wife or an imprisoned man.

When this man got out of jail, she supposedly ended the relationship with Ireland to focus on her marriage.

Last month, a Fort Myers detective received very specific information from Ireland about drugs in this man’s car, and Ireland claimed he received that information from a reliable source.

When detectives searched the car and found drugs where Ireland said they would, they claimed Ireland drove around the scene laughing in a “child like manner.”

Detectives claim Ireland at first lied about the relationship and his information, but then he changed his story.

The sheriff says Ireland may have planted the drugs, but no one has evidence to prove it.
